CELEBRITY PTS LEAD CHRISTMAS TREND
The success of celebrity personal trainers to stars including Madonna, Oprah, Britney Spears and Taylor Swift are behind a massive rise in demand for PT sessions in gyms.
And research from the world’s largest gym chain reveals that personal training sessions have rocketed up the Christmas fitness wish list this year.
More than a third of women polled by Fitness First said they would love personal training sessions for Christmas this year, up more than 10 per cent on the same time last year.
And the demand from men is also on the increase with more than a fifth of men questioned saying they would love PT sessions for 2010.
Fitness First’s personal trainer of the year Tom Eastham says he not surprised by the figures which put gym membership and personal training sessions as more popular under the tree this Christmas than a new outfit for the gym, a smoothie maker or entry to a marathon.
“The effectiveness of personal training has been highlighted this year by the increasing number of celebrities who have regular sessions,’’ said Tom. “While Madonna’s regime is rather extreme the fitness of many celebrities who have a personal trainer is a great advert for our work and the huge and positive impact we can have on people’s lives.’’
He said that while the celebrities enjoy a privileged lifestyle, personal training is one aspect of their lives which anybody can follow. “You don’t need to lead a millionaire lifestyle to get fit although you will feel like a million dollars when you reach your goals.’’
In the Fitness First survey 34 per cent of women and 21 per cent of men said personal training sessions would be their ideal fitness Christmas present.
