A heart attack, a stroke and arthritis
When Geoff was 50-years-old, he had a heart attack whilst skiing in Austria. Years later, another heart attack prompted the Berkhamsted resident to undergo a heart bypass. Geoff’s health problems continued when he later suffered a stroke and developed arthritis.
As a result of the arthritis, both of Geoff’s knees were operated on. Unfortunately, the second operation resulted in an infection that left Geoff bedridden and close to having his leg amputated. This led to extreme depression and he tried to take his own life.
Exercise changed my life
Geoff’s wife suggested joining Fitness First so he hobbled into his local club using 2 walking sticks. With the help and encouragement of his personal trainer, Steve, and Fitness First, Geoff has strengthened his knees and now, aged 78, walks completely unaided.
“Fitness First is a great place to be,” says Geoff “I spend my time talking to people about how they can use exercise to help change their lives. I’ll continue to go as long as I can.”
