Bootcamp fitness

April 06 2022 6 min read

No doubt you’ve heard all about boot camp and how it’s the latest workout to do. But if you’ve never tried it before, what exactly does it involve? Sure, it seems to be lots of sweating, running about and trainers barking commands, army-style, but it’s actually lots of fun. It’s a great cardio workout, strength training and you’ll make lots of new friends at the same time.

WHAT IS BOOT CAMP?

Originally used by former military personnel, boot camp fitness was introduced in the UK in the early 2000s. Traditional fitness boot camp starts with a short warm-up of dynamic stretching and running, followed by a variety of interval training – exercises can including lifting weights, pulling rubber TRX straps, body weight training with push-ups or sit-ups and short explosive activities like plyometrics. The workout usually lasts an hour with a cool down session of stretching or yoga poses. Boot camp exercises are always done in a group and you’re encouraged to motivate and support your fellow teammates.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

After a few sessions, you’ll start to see a difference. Boot camp is a complete body workout, so you’ll feel it in your core, arms, legs, glutes and back. Along with short bursts of intense cardio, you’ll also be doing exercises like planks, mountain climbers, squats, bicep curls and lunges. It works on your flexibility, aerobic ability, strength and endurance.

WHY IS IT SO POPULAR?

Boot camp is not only good for your physical body but also your mental health as well. Boot camps are used to lose body fat, increase cardiovascular activity, build strength, and introduce healthy eating routines. At the same time, boot camps are famous for their team spirit and support, as you all work together in a team to finish. It can be intense and challenging at times, but it’s especially good if you get bored with regular routines or find it hard to work out by yourself. The exercises are constantly changing so you’re working different muscles all the time, every session.

WHERE CAN YOU DO IT?
