The Best Yogis of Instagram

June 17 2016

The great thing about yoga is that you don’t need anything beyond a mat and some motivation. So, take advantage of the summer weather and head outside to your back garden or your local park and perfect your King Pigeon pose in the fresh air. Or if it’s typical British summer weather, you can head down to the gym or just set up in your living room. To get you started, we’ve put together our eight favourite yogis whose Instagrams are designed to inspire, motivate and encourage you and your yoga practice, wherever you are. Take a deep breath in, exhale out an om and start scrolling. Namaste.

1. Laura Kasperzak (@laurasykora)

Yoga and acrovinyasa teacher

With over a million followers and counting, this New Jersey-based mum is a true Insta-yogi star. A former cheerleader and gymnast, Laura made the switch to yoga almost 18 years ago and hasn’t looked back. She practices mind-bending acrovinyasa with her husband and has one of the cutest little assistants – her 6-year-old daughter who she calls ‘mini’. Mini even has her own Instagram too, with an impressive 31,000 followers!

2. Nude Yoga Girl (@nude_yogagirl)

Model and photographer

Don’t worry, Nude Yoga Girl is completely PG-rated! This anonymous 25-year-old has turned yoga into an art form with beautiful black and white photos of her practicing completely naked. A former model, Nude Yoga Girl says she created her page to promote body acceptance and positivity by showing what physical effect yoga can have on your body.

3. Angie Yeo (@sassyyogi)

Marketer, yoga teacher and fitness influencer

This Singaporean yoga teacher has collaborated with H&M, Forever 21 and Lorna Jane, and regularly shares blogs about her practice and life musings. Her Instagram is full of advanced poses and her #mondaymantras. She has a no-frills approach to her practice and always accompanies each pose with an inspiring quote or hashtag.

4. Amanda Bisk (@amandabisk)

Exercise physiologist, elite athletics coach and yoga instructor

A former Australian pole vaulter, Amanda’s life changed when she was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. After being forced to quit her dream of the Olympic Games in 2012, Amanda turned to yoga to lift her spirits and ease her body back into sport. Now she has 585,000 Instagram followers and runs 12-week training programs, online workouts and yoga, fitness and surfing escapes to exotic locations such as Bali, Hawaii and the Maldives. Her Insta is a healthy mix of travel shots, video workouts and fan photos of their real life body transformations.

5. Jessamyn Stanley (@mynameisjessamyn)

Yoga teacher, writer and body positive advocate

Calling herself ‘a fat femme’, Jessamyn uses her social media to show that yoga isn’t just for skinny girls, but rather all bodies of all shapes and sizes. From her North Carolina base, she uses a high energy vinyasa flow practice to break past mental and emotional barriers and encourages people around the world to join her journey. Jessamyn believes yoga isn’t about looks, but about how it makes you feel in your own body.

6. AcroYoga (@acroyoga)

AcroYoga is one of the coolest types of yoga going around at the moment. A combination of acrobatics and yoga, AcroYoga is a partner workout designed to bring you closer together both physically and spiritually. The AcroYoga Instagram account is a collection of all the best photos taken by yogis who hashtag their pictures with #acroyoga or #AYlifestyle. It’s inspiration to take your practice to the next level… quite literally!

7. Rachel Brathen (@yoga_girl)

Author, motivational speaker and international yoga teacher

If you like your Warrior I with a side of wanderlust, then Rachel is your (yoga) girl! Originally from Sweden, it was when Rachel travelled to Costa Rica that she had a spiritual awakening and discovered yoga. Now based in Aruba, her tropical feed is full of healthy eating, inspirational quotes and pictures of her yoga-loving husband and puppy, all set against a stunning Caribbean backdrop.

8. Patrick Beach (@patrickbeach)

Yoga teacher, YouTuber and creator of BLNCX athleticwear

Patrick has over 300,000 Instagram followers and it’s pretty easy to see why: he’s insanely good looking. Add on top his gravity-defying yoga moves and amazing strength and you’ve got yourself pretty much the whole yoga package. His feed includes videos of his practice, photos of his dog and a few easy-on-the-eye model shots.
