Friday the 8th of March is International Women’s Day, so to celebrate, Fitness First first is supporting women across the UK by changing its name to DW Female First!
What are we doing Nationwide to Support IWD?
On 8th March, all women can attend a Fitness First gym for free on the 8th of March in a bid to inspire them to visit the gym, attend classes and try the experience.
As well as this, Fitness First is offering 15% off all Women’s and Girl’s lines to help kit out women who are looking to boost their confidence and feel empowered through sport and exercise.
What is DW Female First?
Our DW Female First takeover comes on the back of a recent Mintel report into health and
fitness in the UK, which revealed a “massive gender imbalance in physical activity levels in
the UK”. US studies also revealed that women feel insecure about going to the gym
(58% feel they are being judged for using equipment incorrectly; 65% avoid the gym for fear
of being judged and 55% feel judged for not looking fit enough).
Tim Andrews, Head of Gym Floor Experience at Fitness First commented:
“We want to re-address the gender imbalance in gym use this International Women’s Day. We know that we have 15% more male than female members, so want to shine a light on these women and allow them to try classes and boost their confidence in a gym space without any feelings of intimidation.”
Fitness First Bishopsgate International Women’s Day Launch Event
In London’s Bishopsgate, we’re transforming our gym with a packed schedule of
empowering female-orientated activities throughout the day – including a dance-inspired workout class and workshop led by professional dancer and Reebok Ambassador
Danielle Peazer. Plus, Team GB athlete Perri Shakes-Drayton will lead a women's running
group and host a workshop, supported by England Athletics. All free for members and consumers to book throughout the day and designed to boost female confidence in classes and on the gym floor and enable like-minded women to connect with one another.
Danielle Peazer will kick off the day by leading the dance-inspired ‘Danielle Peazer Method’ workout classes - focusing on empowering women through exercise whilst having fun and getting fit. Members and non-members alike are invited to take part in a series of classes from the best of Fitness First’s fitness menu – from gym floor FGT Glute Gains to Bootcamps.
During the day gym staff will be on hand throughout the gym to support and offer training advice on weights and machines. Reebok staff will also be on hand to offer a trial of footwear and a sports bra fitting service to ensure all gym goers are wearing the ideal clothing for their sessions.
How to get involved in a class
All sessions, including those hosted by Danielle Peazer and Peri Shakes-Drayton, are
bookable via Eventbright and members can book via the Fitness First CORE app.
