Member stories: Taylor’s four stone weight loss journey!

April 03 2017

Taylor, a member of our Blackpool club, has lost an astonishing 4 stone in under 4 months! We caught up with him to discover how he achieved this amazing weight loss transformation, how he stays motivated and the kind of workouts he likes to do at the gym…

How much did you lose in total and how long did it take?

I started my weight loss journey on December 1st. And I weighed 17stone 4 lbs, to this day I am 13stone 5lbs! Which is really crazy if you think about it, but with the amount of hard work and dedication I've put in to achieving my goal, it's nice to be rewarded pretty fast! It just shows that you don't need any sort of weight loss pills or shortcuts to get to your goal, just eat healthy, work hard and drink lots of water!

What made you decide to join the gym? Was there a turning point?

My main motivation to losing weight and joining the gym was my goal of joining The Royal Navy. I knew in the state I was it wouldn't have been possible so it's given me a direction, a drive and a goal. I'm currently in the process of joining the Royal Navy - I have my medical on the 6th April. Fingers crossed!

Do you have any celebrity icons or athletes that you use as inspiration?

The celebrity icons that motivate me would be Kevin Hart and Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson, I love their work ethic, their outlooks on life and how they inspire literally millions to be the best they can be!

Other than the weight loss, have you experienced any other positive changes?

Apart from looking a lot better, I feel 100x healthier, I have more energy to burn throughout my day! My confidence has shot through the roof, and I'm generally happier with myself!

How do you stay motivated to hit the gym every night, even when you are feeling tired or stressed with work?

I stay motivated to hit the gym every night, because I have a goal. I've set my sights on joining the Royal Navy and I'm going to do everything I possibly can, to reach my best level. I don't want to stop now I've lost all this weight - I want to keep going so I can inspire people and show them that it's possible as long as they want it!

Also, don't be afraid to take pictures! Nothing motivates me more than seeing my own body change. It's a great confidence boost!

What type of workouts do you do?

I mainly do cardio, so I'll go on the treadmill and either do 20 minutes of interval training or practice my mile and a half which I need to do in the Royal Navy fitness test. And then sometimes I'll go on the step master and that just makes you drip with sweat! It's brilliant even though it burns (it's a good burn). Finish it off with some core work - abs and back!

Apart from actually using the gym equipment I use the fitness classes a lot - circuits, body pump, body combat! They are all great, the instructors are amazing, they push you to your limit and they make working out fun and enjoyable. Sure to make you sweat and really work! I'd definitely suggest going to them. Everyone is so helpful and kind that you don't feel awkward working out in front of them!

I also use the swimming pool most evenings and go for runs down the prom if I'm not at the gym.

Do you have any advice for other people who are in a similar situation?

My advice to any people in my position would be to keep working hard, believe in yourself and be happy. Also, throw a fitness class or two into your workout!
