Four incredible yoga retreats

April 06 2022 6 min read

Practicing yoga at home or at one of our many weekly classes is a great way to stretch, tone, and relieve the stress and tension of a busy lifestyle. And while that's great, even we can't deny incredible benefits to be gained from a yoga retreat.

From India to the furthest tip of Scotland, you can find yoga holidays across the globe these days. Yoga-loving guests can enjoy anything from two days to two months at a retreat, where activities include not only daily yoga classes, but everything from meditation sessions and chanting to jungle treks, massage and surf lessons.

If you fancy striking some yoga poses amongst new scenery, then book into one of these four incredible (though all very different) yoga retreats this summer.

Wild and Free Surf and Yoga
Cornwall
Best for: Water lovers

Run by writer-turned-yoga teacher Philly Lewis and three-times British Surf Champion Alan Stokes, Wild and Free retreats take place across Europe and Africa, however if you want to stay closer to home, their four-day Cornwall retreat is for you. Located on the stunning beach of Mawgan Porth, a village of luxury yurts accommodates guests ready to improve both their stretching and surfing skills. Aside from daily yoga and surf sessions however, the outdoor resort houses a heated pool, sauna and steam room, and extra activities include ocean runs, clifftop walks, cycling, or simply lazing on the shore.

Fykiada Retreats
Greece
Best for: Sun worshipers

Greece natives Anna (from Kythnos) and Aranthi (from Mykonos) have been hosting four-day yoga retreats in the Greek Cyclades for three years. Guests can pick to stay on either Kythnos or Mykonos (both a relatively short boat ride from Athens), but both locations offer villa accommodation, twice-daily yoga lessons overlooking turquoise waters, lazing on white sand, and wonderful, locally-sourced cooking. The girls run several retreats per year, with each focussing on a different style of yoga such as Ashtanga and Yin.

Phool Chatti Retreats

India
Best for: Authentic explorers

A stay at the Phool Chatti Ashram, which is located in northern India amongst the foothills of the Himalayas, is for the more adventurous yogi, or for the more dedicated. The retreats at Phool Chatti are as much about relaxation as they are about learning, as the rich traditions of yoga are very much a focus here. Surrounded by mountain views and beautiful gardens, guests enrolled on the beginner/intermediate course here can take part in daily yoga sessions, mantra chanting, group meditation, scenic meditative walks, observed silences, and philosophy workshops.

Les Passeroses
France
Best for: countryside seekers

Sign up to one of the many week-long yoga holidays hosted at Les Passeroses, a picturesque, ivy-clad gite in Nonac, France, and you're in for some serious peace and quiet. While the retreats vary depending on the teacher, most include two daily yoga classes, optional meditation sessions and then free time to sunbathe, laze by the outdoor pool or roam the cottage's surrounding fields. For all retreats, a on-site therapist is in hand to give relaxing massages, reflexology and reiki. Les Passeroses isn't for the small-stomached either, as daily meals include a locally-sourced, homemade breakfast, two-course lunch and three-course dinner. Bon appétit!
