From Competing Herself
To Coaching Others
Laura is a personal trainer and HYROX coach at Fitness First, and she knows the event from every angle. Having competed seven times herself, across open, pro and doubles formats, she brings the experience of someone who has genuinely shared the pain she asks others to push through.
When the Road to HYROX project came about, Andy was the first person who came to mind. She'd watched him in her classes, loading extra plates onto the sled, challenging the people around him to keep up. His strength and endurance were already there. The running just needed work.
There was no dramatic turning point in his preparation. Andy arrived physically ready and mentally willing from the start. Laura's focus was building his confidence over longer distances, and by race day, that confidence was clear.
Standing in the tunnel watching the countdown, Laura felt the nerves on his behalf. She knew how daunting that moment is. When he crossed the finish line, smiling and looking around for someone to share it with, she was happy in the way you can only be when you've seen exactly how much someone has put in.
At Fitness First, the facilities made the job straightforward. The sled, the ski, the rower, the curved treadmill, everything needed to prepare for HYROX was already in the room. After sessions, Laura had Andy using the compression leg equipment to speed up recovery, alongside the sauna, steam room and swimming pool to keep him consistent through the training block.
Road to HYROX
At Fitness First, we believe progress isn't linear, and results don't come from quick fixes. It's about showing up, again and again. Because when you choose progress, you don't just change your body, you change what you believe is possible.
